Step 3 - s117 Aftercare Services

Introduction

Individuals who are detained under s3, 37, 45A, 47 or 48 of the Mental Health Act, are entitled to support once they leave hospital. This is arranged under s117 of the Act and is commonly known as 'aftercare'.

CCG's, Local Health Boards and local authority's have a duty to provide aftercare services to a person who is entitled to receive it - neither the the CCG nor the LA can charge for the services, s117 aftercare is free.

This webinar is delivered by Janet Blair who is the mental health lead in the Personal Health Budget team at NHS England, and Bonnie Studd who is the PHB manager at the Advocacy Project in City & Hackney. 

Janet and Bonnie will look at mental health processes, explore where there is a right to have a PHB and look at the guidance around s117 aftercare.  During the session they will also consider what 'good' look likes as well as addressing common challenges faced  by advocates.
